A 1950s wedding theme is bang on trend for 2011. Popular female fashion icons of the day included Doris Day, Marilyn Monroe, Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor. For your wedding dress, think classic, elegant white strapless sweetheart bridal gowns with full skirts and net petticoats, teamed with white gloves and pearl jewellery, or fun retro inspired dresses with hints of red. Male members of the wedding party would look stunning in shawl collar tuxedos for a realistic retro 50s detail. Make use of typical mid-century wedding emblems, such as bride and groom cake-toppers, wedding bells and lovebird themes. You could even hire a soda fountain for that authentic retro fifties feel.
